Joey is an experienced beekeeper and apiculture professional based in central North Carolina. He began keeping bees in 2010, turning an initial curiosity into a lasting passion and growing sideline business.
Through his apiaries, Joey produces, markets, and sells regional honey varieties, including Piedmont Wildflower, Mountain Wildflower, and Sourwood honey. His firsthand experience with colony management and beekeeping equipment gives him a practical understanding of the challenges beekeepers encounter throughout the season.
Joey's relationship with HillCo began as a customer before he started working with the company in 2024 and 2025 to assist with the North American Honey Bee Expo. In early 2025, he joined HillCo full-time as Marketing Manager and a Sales Team Member, bringing his experience from the bee yard to the industry side of the business.
He is a member of the Alamance County Beekeepers Association, the Toe Cane Beekeepers Association, and the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association. Joey frequently travels to other state and regional conferences with HillCo, where he enjoys connecting with other beekeepers, sharing practical knowledge, and staying engaged with the broader apiculture community. He has also served as a mentor for Hives for Heroes.
Joey has served as a mentor for Hives for Heroes and volunteered with his local fire department for more than 30 years. Outside of beekeeping, he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing a round of golf or just watching sports. Joey has spent many spring and summer evenings as a PA announcer for baseball games. He also attends and is actively involved in his church community.
