A bee death trap. Shim must be leaved. Trough does not slope so a large fluid level must be maintained to keep bees from escaping from bottom only to get stuck.

I especially like the price. I can make my own shims. Be sure to fasten them down (I used screws).

Bees can get out in to were the food goes and surprise you when you take off the lid the spacing is not right on the center cover

Like the large bin and that it is yellow in color. Like all feeders, bees have a hard time getting into/back out of the opening when the clear lid is in place. Instead, I allow them to open-feed in the hive by loading straw in the bin for support while drinking their syrup.

Normally I use frame feeders but this year I've decided to give top feeders a try. I've purchase several of these without shims and just built my own. It is better to anchor these down to the shim or they can/will come up with the inner cover or top cover. I just wish they would make some of these for nucs.
