Maxx18 Honey Extractor - 18 Frame Radial - Free Shipping!
Introducing the new and improved Maxx18 model! Replacing our enormously popular UltraMax model, this upgraded machine now has a fully stainless steel reel, and an awesome (optional) upgraded program motor controller!
Part of our "Maxx" family of flagship extractors, the Maxx18 stands head-and-shoulders above the competition. Here are a few things that set it apart:
- Proven HillCo PowerMax drive system: an industrial grade motor, gearbox, and controller. This combination is smooth, quiet and durable. A great combination of simplicity and refinement, this drive system performs fabulously!
- Your choice of our tried and true Standard motor controller, or a beefy new upgraded Program controller! The Program controller runs a 14 minute, pre-programmed cycle that starts out slow, and gradually ramps up to full speed automatically, then shuts off when it's done! It also allows manual control operation, and can be seamlessly switched back and forth from automatic to manual mode with the flip of a toggle switch. You'll love this new controller option!
- 21 gauge, type 304 food-grade stainless steel tank
- Ez-Drain honey gate design: the honey drain valve is located slightly below the tank floor, giving you a complete, seamless honey drain.
- Maxx extractor tank features a HillCo-exclusive tank bottom that slopes towards the front, ensuring that all your honey flows smoothly towards the gate. No tipping the tank, no hassle, it just works!
- Industry leading 4/10 warranty: motor, gearbox, controller, and wiring are guaranteed for 4 years. The rest of the machine (tank, legs, lower bearing, reel, etc), are guaranteed for 10 years! We have engineered a quality product and we will stand behind it!
- Designed and assembled in USA by HillCo!
Other features/specs:
- 1/2 horsepower PowerMax motor, 5:1 ratio worm-drive gearbox
- Plugs into normal 110v household outlets
- Extracts 9 deep or 18 medium/shallow frames radially (will actually fit 12 deep frames, but it's a tight fit)

One negative it definitely needs to be mounted. When it starts walking , you better hold on. I borrowed a friend's 16 frame made by hilco. Much more basket to clean this 18 framer was a breeze for clean up.
I was looking for an extractor for some time before I found HillCo. Once I realized the quality, warranty and customer service that came with every purchase, I was convinced that this was the one I was getting. I had a few conversations with John before deciding to purchase the 18-frame extruder. Talk about high quality... Wow!!!! This extruder is not only aesthetically pleasing, but you can tell that it's very heavy-duty. I'm looking forward to years of enjoyment, especially knowing that it has the superior warranty and HillCo customer service standing behind it. I couldn't be happier and I'm confident that you will be too. Thanks to John and the team for going above and get me this extractor. 5 STARS!!!!!!
Going from a 2 frame hand crank extractor to the Maxx18 was a big jump for me, and well worth it! The steel reels are a nice upgrade from the nylon molded reels that were still pictured on the website when I ordered my extractor, so that was a nice surprise! Same with the upgrade to the program control unit.
I spun out over 700lbs of honey over 2 weekend and the Maxx18 worked great. For the first 18 frames I used the 12 minute program without any problems. When the 12 minute program was done, I switched to manual mode and let it spin while I continued uncapping my next batch of 18 frames. The 2nd batch of 18 also ran flawlessly on the 12 minute program. I did continue to spin these frames on manual mode for a while longer, getting even more honey too sling out. It would be nice if the user would be able to modify this program. For the first 36 frames there were no balance issues at all. Everything ran smoothly, even at max speed.
The Lexan covers are great. I had a frame slip out of my hand and hit the hinged cover on the extractor. I thought for sure it would crack, but it didn't. If I did that with the plexiglass on the 2 frame, I'm sure it would have shattered.
When using the extractor for the 2nd time, things did not go as smoothly as the first. There were balance issues that made the program mode unusable. Not a big issue as I adjusted it manually and continued working. It the future I will look into securing the extractor so it doesn't walk away from me and spill honey of the floor!
I wish the extractor came with some documentation such as an instruction manual for the controller and a parts list would be great if I ever need to order any replacement parts.
As I sit here thinking about this review, I have a lot of cappings sitting in my 40" uncapping tank (review coming soon) letting the honey drip out. This got me wondering about building a basket for spinning out cappings that could be swapped out with the frame reel. If you are looking for new product ideas, a capping spinning basket that is interchangeable with the frame reels of your extractors could be something worth looking into!
